Positive Teaching® for Primary & Kindergarten Parents
There is a popular misconception that earlier exposure to PSLE format, rubrics and material will help children score at the PSLE. This is the reason why many parents assign pages of assessment worksheets to their children, and attempt to expose their children to PSLE-like challenges in Lower Primary. Another school of thought advises against that. You would not feed a baby adult food because babies are not stage-ready to deal with adult food. Hence, perhaps one should not teach skills for the Upper Primary to Lower Primary children who are not stage ready. This Seminar is designed to help parents lay a strong foundation for PSLE content from ages 3-8. The teaching strategies taught are designed to leverage on the child's subconscious learning capacity instead of conscious learning capacity. In Lower Primary, the effective and extensive learning required to build a foundation for PSLE requirements can be achieved through methods far more effective than Assessment Books. |
This is true for all four PSLE subjects but is especially true of English, Chinese and Science. This seminar teaches strategies for Positive Teaching® where we help our children learn positively. Come and discover how to systematically lay a strong PSLE foundation in Lower Primary without resorting to piles of worksheets and tons of tuition.
The upcoming seminars are on:

Positive Teaching® Strategies Seminar Reviews
Here are the participant reviews of the Positive Teaching for Lower Primary Parents®. I had initially wanted to take photos of the feedback sheets to assure readers that this is raw participant feedback, but then decided to type all out instead. Those who want to see photos of participant reviews can go here to read feedback on an earlier session.
WHAT I LIKED
Info/techniques to prepare for PSLE WHAT I DISLIKED Nothing much WHAT I LIKED
I love Potato Chinese™. I think it can be modified for Potato Tamil :-). Seriously, I wouldn't have believed it but I did a sample bit on DS, and while it's early days yet, I see some positive results. Today, I understood a bit more about how it works! WHAT I DISLIKED Not exactly... but there were other things I wanted to learn from you. I sort of expected more sharing on motivation. (Petunia's Response: This module was designed to focus on teaching strategies instead of motivation strategies. This is done to bring more value to customers since the motivation strategies are already covered in Petunia's Book. This participant had not yet read Petunia's book and was thus understandably disappointed that Petunia shared so little about her main domain of expertise!!) WHAT I LIKED
I now have an idea of stuff that is tested in PSLE. It's an eye-opener. WHAT I DISLIKED 3 hours is too short! |
WHAT I LIKED
The cosy setting. I looked forward to Little Boy's opinion and sharing but he left abruptly. WHAT I DISLIKED Duration of the course was too short. The sharing on the Potato Chinese was too short. WHAT I LIKED
Candid and motivational and highly doable methods. A reaffirmation of what I instinctively know. The message is a message of hope. Thank you! Will be very keen to attend more of such workshops! WHAT I DISLIKED Too short. I would have liked the course to be longer... with more interaction if possible (but not allow too many interruptions mid-presentation). WHAT I LIKED
It was a session that spoke to my heart. I came away confident of what I suspected was the "secret" for the longest time. Thank you for that. WHAT I DISLIKED I totally enjoyed the session BUT if there is one thing to change/what I wish for... is for a longer session :-p. |
WHAT I LIKED
Lots of sharing of experiences from Petunia and other parents. WHAT I DISLIKED Not enough time to ask more questions 'cos all the parents want to ask. WHAT I LIKED
Insight into PSLE/Upper Primary requirements. Realisation that the old school methods I have been using with my children don't work with the new syllabus. WHAT I DISLIKED Repeatedly asking myself "Oh dear! Am I too late? Have I caused deep and irreversible damage with my old school methods?" (Petunia's Response: Nope... it is never too late. There is no damage done. The old school methods are simply slow and inefficient. They don't damage the child.) WHAT I LIKED
Practical advice provided in a very clear format. Extremely relevant & invaluable to any parent with a school-going child. WHAT I DISLIKED Too short. Would have preferred a full-day session to flesh out more issues. WHAT I LIKED
Practical examples... especially Science WHAT I DISLIKED Inconvenient location. Difficult parking. |
